Mid-June, our managing director in China, Jonas Frank, ripped out two days of his calendar to live on-board one of the biggest oil tankers in the world.
As Jonas says: “To understand our clients, we must know their products. I wanted to know what the different cargoes are used for, and how it operates in reality – and that’s why I decided to live two days on an oil tanker”.
The oil tanker was 274 meters long, 48 meters in width and had a total height of 51 meters. Jonas was not only living on-board the vessel, he also experienced a Chinese shipyard from the inside; something which can only be described as a small city with walls, including everything a normal city has to offer.
It was a great experience for our managing director, Jonas, and by the way: Do you know that the Chinese mitten crab can now be found everywhere in the world? This is what happens when a vessel does not replace and treat the water in their ballast tanks frequently.
